The understated landscapes of Sean Thomas were the focus of the night, as the gallery welcomed the opening of “Quiet Lands.” Attendees marveled at the delicate yet complex painterly styling of the minimal landscapes in Thomas’ grey muted palette. Scott Axtman of Westside Arts and colleague Jeff Allen provided the perfect soundtrack to the gallery environment, with their smooth jazz and blues guitar and bass combination. The music, fine painting and conversation of the arts enthusiasts filled the gallery with the perfect ambiance.

The gallery was host to photographer Traer Scott, who spoke about her work and experiences creating the Street Dogs and Shelter Dogs books. Attendees had the opportunity to ask Scott questions about her work and meet this outstanding local photographer. The Nat Porter restaurant of Warren provided wonderful appetizers, which delighted gallery attendees. All enjoyed a great night of fine photography, interesting discussion and standout food. Many thanks to the Nat Porter and Traer Scott!

Traer Scott’s black and white photographs of street and shelter dogs filled the gallery and attracted a throng of art enthusiasts and animal lovers during the opening reception of “Wandering Spirit.” Scott graciously signed copies of her books Street Dogs and Shelter Dogs.  Patrons were moved by the beauty of Scott’s photographic images and lingered in their iconic presence enjoying conversation and the shared admiration for Scott’s work.
Notables in the crowd included Tony Lanciano from Edgewoof Pet Bakery, whose donations helped the gallery raise money for the Providence Animal Rescue League, which was also well represented. A great evening of art and philanthropy brought the finest to the GC Gallery.
Doug Brill’s wood sculptural forms and furniture continued to marvel attendees, holding admiration for the master sculptor’s work.

The wood sculptures of Doug Brill infused the gallery with shapes and forms beautifully created from hardwood, creating an environment of visual magnificence. Visitors enjoyed furniture, wall hangings and other beautiful objects. Gallery attendees lingered in amazement and appreciation for the beauty and artistry of Doug Brill.

The black and white photography of Alexandra Broches was the focus of the GC Gallery’s latest opening reception. Patrons enjoyed the natural collections artfully photographed by Broches.
Also on display, Paula Martiesian’s boldly colorful landscape paintings continued to captivate gallery attendees. All enjoyed an afternoon of art in black and white and sensuous full color.

The GC Gallery walls busted with color with the arrival of paintings by Paula Martisiean.
The gallery was filled with guests who enjoyed Martiesian’s large, bold, bright colorful landscape expressions. The festive gallery environment included the jazz guitar and bass duo of Mark Armstrong and Ken Carpenter, providing the smooth soundtrack to Martisiean’s playful paintings. Guests clearly enjoyed the combination of great colorful paintings and vibrant music. Notable guests included Catherine Bert of the Bert Gallery, and previous Gail Cahalan Gallery exhibiting artists Arthur Moore of Pawtucket and Kathy Hodge.

Jill Cook’s White Series continued to intrigue patrons who lingered within her painterly creations. The subtle mysterious painterly interpretations provided a dramatic balance against a world of brilliant color rendering in Martiesian’s paintings.
The afternoon turned into evening leaving art enthusiasts satisfied with the sights, sounds and conversation provided in the GC Gallery.

The GC Gallery welcomed the arrival of Jill Cook’s White Series exhibition. Her paintings captivated gallery guests, who marveled at the delicate painterly renderings of figures caught in a snowbound world. Full of mystery, ambiguity and body language, the White Series presented a world of frozen time executed masterfully by Cook. The gallery crowd had many familiar faces as well as some new guests who soaked in the sensory rich gallery environment of great paintings, music, food and beverages.

The gallery was host to the unique collection of paintings by Leah Grimaldi on Saturday, for the opening of "Landscapes of the Mind." Guests spent an early spring evening collected around Grimaldi's works, caught up in the detail and imagination on exhibit. Lorna Stoke' masterful photography continued to be a point of interest to gallery goers, as they marveled at the beautiful landscapes of Ireland. An evening of imagination and beauty through original works of art was enjoyed by all.

The gallery was proud to host the opening reception of Beyond the Green, featuring Lorna Stoke’s vision of Ireland. While the wind and rain raged outside, art enthusiasts dried off in the GCG, thoroughly enjoying the serenity of Lorna Stoke’s beautiful photographs. Attendees shared in the wondrous admiration for her masterful photography and subject matter.
The precision and power of Erik Bright’s black and white ceramics continued to entrance attendees and provided a welcome juxtaposition to the photography on exhibit. A night of beautiful art and great guests was enjoyed by all.

The opening reception for “Surface, Form & Rhythm” at the GCG welcomed many art enthusiasts who lingered in the ambiance of the show’s stunning art. Visitors were dazzled by Erik Bright’s black and white ceramic work, marveling at the craftsmanship and design. Crowds thoroughly enjoyed the ceramic artistry which was complemented nicely by Bradley Fesmire’s large, commanding abstract paintings, which continued to entrace spectators. On all accounts, it was evening full of great art and wonderful company.

The GCG celebrated the opening of its latest showing - "Surfaces & Beyond" which features the art of Ray Schamp, and Bradley Fesmire. Art lovers flocked to the gallery despite the snow and sleet to view what many said to be beautiful, engaging, and a welcome jolt of energy to the scene.

Schamp's modern twist on origami delighted and surprised, while Fesmire's large, dramatic paintings made a powerful impression.

The GCG had a sparkling opening reception for the Winter Holiday Show, which featured beautiful works of art and unique crafts. This show represented the diverse talents of tenants in the studios at 200 Allens Avenue as well as other Providence area fine artists. On display were intricate and delicate origami pieces, sculptural pieces in several media, photography, ceramics, and much more. The opening was a great success, with guests enjoying the art, music and edibles throughout the evening.

The GCG had the opening reception for “Baseball; Pastime and Passion - The Paintings of Peter Campbell.”

At the opening, former Big-Leaguer Mike Stenhouse came by for a special appearance. A former Red Sox, Mr. Stenhouse played on the 1986 AL Championship team. He and Peter Campbell were at the center of the lively and illuminating discussions on the game.

WEEI Sports Radio graciously sent a van to the event, which brought some more excitement to the opening. Later that evening they broadcast the thrilling Red Sox win, thanks to Manny Ramirez’s walk-off homer.

Special thanks to Dr. Patrick and Gail Conley and The Providence Piers’ Fabre Line Club for generously inviting all gallery guests to the Club to watch the Red Sox in style and enjoy the superlative ambience and service the Club offers.

Wednesday, Sept. 26

The GCG hosted a special wine tasting event by Douglas Wines. A small crowd of enthusiasts enjoyed high-end wines along with the gallery's current show "Photographs of Cuba."

The wine tasting was part of a charity fundraiser for A Wish Come True, Inc. We extend our thanks to all the people who attended and their support of such a great charity. Also, thanks to everyone from Douglas Wines for the great job they did.

The Providence Latin American Film Festival kicked off it's 15th anniversary with a packed exhibit of photographs from Cuba at the GCG. The works of Aislinn Leggett and Babak Salari filled the walls while hundreds of guests enjoyed the sights, sounds, and tastes of Latin America.

The Gail Cahalan Gallery had its premier opening. Providence art aficionados crowded the city's newest art venue throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Our show of three great local painters, Jason Brockert, Kathy Hodge and Arthur Moore, drew glowing praise from the viewers and many people were equally impressed by the gallery's elegant and beautiful exhibition environment. Thanks to everyone for such a strong showing on our first event!
